How to install LUTs in Adobe Photoshop

Quick answer

In Photoshop, choose Layer → New Adjustment Layer → Color Lookup, then in Properties pick 3DLUT File → Load 3D LUT… and choose a .cube file. Use the layer's opacity to set the strength.

Photoshop CC and later on Mac and Windows.
Which files
LUTs: the .cube files in each look's Luts Cube folder, for example DRONE BUNDLE/OCEAN/Luts Cube (Cinematic) or the .cube files in LUTs by drone-luts.com (CUBE) (GoPro). Camera Raw presets: the .xmp files in each look's XMP folder.

Apply a LUT with Color Lookup

  1. Unzip the download first. Double-click the .zip on a Mac; on Windows right-click it and choose Extract All. Apps cannot read LUTs from inside a zip.

  2. Open your photo (or a video file; Photoshop grades video layers the same way).

  3. Choose Layer → New Adjustment Layer → Color Lookup and click OK.

  4. In the Properties panel, open the 3DLUT File menu, choose Load 3D LUT… and pick a .cube file.

  5. Lower the adjustment layer's Opacity to soften the look, or mask it to limit it to part of the image.

Keep the LUTs in the 3DLUT menu

  1. Quit Photoshop.

  2. Copy the .cube files into Photoshop's Presets/3DLUTs folder. Mac: /Applications/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Presets/3DLUTs. Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop [version]\Presets\3DLUTs.

  3. Reopen Photoshop. The looks are listed in the 3DLUT File menu.

Use the presets in Camera Raw

  1. Choose Filter → Camera Raw Filter (or open a raw file).

  2. Click the Presets icon, then the ⋯ menu, and choose Import Profiles & Presets….

  3. Select the .xmp files. They also appear in Lightroom Classic, which shares Camera Raw's presets.

Troubleshooting

Color Lookup is greyed out.

Switch the document to RGB with Image → Mode → RGB Color. Color Lookup does not work in CMYK, Lab or indexed colour.
