Using the LUTs & presets
What is a LUT?
A LUT (look-up table) is a small file that maps the colours in your footage to new colours. Applying one gives a clip a finished colour grade in one step, instead of adjusting contrast, saturation and hue by hand.
What is the difference between a LUT and a preset?
A LUT (.cube) grades video in editors like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. A Lightroom preset (.xmp) does the same for photos in Lightroom and Camera Raw. The Cinematic bundle includes both versions of every look, so your photos and videos can match.
How do I install the LUTs?
Pick your app in our install guides: step-by-step instructions for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Lightroom, phone apps and more.
Can I make a look stronger or softer?
Yes. Most editors have an intensity, strength, mix or opacity control for LUTs, and Lightroom has an Amount slider for presets. Around 60–80% suits most shots.
Do the LUTs work on log footage?
Yes. They are compatible with generic log and Rec.709 footage. If you shoot in a log profile such as D-Log, apply the LUT after a conversion to Rec.709 (or on a node after it) for the most accurate result.
Do the presets work on RAW and JPEG photos?
Yes, on RAW, JPEG, HEIC and DNG files. RAW gives you the most room to fine-tune exposure and white balance after applying a preset.
What resolution footage can I use?
Any resolution, up to 8K. A LUT changes colour only, so it does not affect sharpness or resolution.
What file formats are included?
Both packs include .cube and .3dl LUTs for video editors, DJI D-Log conversion LUTs, Lightroom versions (.xmp, which also import into Lightroom mobile) and Capture One styles (.costyle). The Cinematic bundle adds .lrtemplate presets for older Lightroom versions and .dng presets for Lightroom mobile.
Drones, editors & phones
Which drones and cameras do the LUTs work with?
Any. They are built for drone footage, including the DJI Mini, Air, Mavic and Avata lines, and also work with GoPro, Osmo, Insta360, iPhone and cameras from Arri, Sony, RED, Nikon, Canon and Panasonic. See grading notes for 35 popular drones, cameras and phones.
Which editing software is supported?
Any editor that loads .cube LUTs or Lightroom presets, including Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom (mobile & desktop), Avid Media Composer, Filmora, LumaFusion and many more.
Do they work with DJI D-Log M?
Can I use the presets on my phone?
Yes. The Lightroom presets work in Lightroom on desktop and on Lightroom mobile for iOS and Android. The LUTs also work in mobile editors such as LumaFusion and 3DLUT Mobile.
Which phone apps can load the LUTs?
Apps that import .cube files, including LumaFusion, VN, Adobe Premiere on iPhone, VideoLUT, PeekLUT and Filmic Pro. See the phone app guides.
Do they work in CapCut or Instagram Edits?
In CapCut on a computer, yes. The CapCut phone app and Instagram Edits cannot import custom LUTs yet, so grade your clip in an app like VN or LumaFusion first. More on apps without LUT support.
Do the presets work in the free Lightroom mobile app?
Yes. You can import and apply presets in the free Lightroom mobile app on iPhone, iPad and Android. Lightroom mobile guide.
